About this Project

Wood is a dilemma to us, no problem with any wood indoors, but outside it is fraught with danger. We laser engrave, surface print, paint and shape all sorts of wood for indoor use, favourites are oak, beech, mahogany, ash and cedar. Mahogany and Oak are discussed below as items 6 and 7.

Laser wood engraving of ditties and funny sketches are one of the author’s fun things, often a poem or an irreverent anniversary skit lasered into cedar wood as an engraved gift. This type of work is very welcome, it is refreshing.

For outside,we use dark Irokowood with a white or cream infill paint. Iroko is stocked as thick planks which are laser engraved and backfilled with a light coloured acrylic paint. The planks can be glued and screwed together to form a large sign for outdoor use. An exception is the use of traditional Oak fingerpoles, when we lay engraved plastic signs inserted discreetly into the fingers.

The example is Cedar Wood which has been laser engraved and cut to the size of a business card.
